Metal heavyweights Arch Enemy & Trivium made a pit stop at Royal Oak Music Theater as part of their current North American Fall Tour. Accompanying them on this bill were metal core acts, Fit For An Autopsy and While She Sleeps.
Easily two of the best opening acts I've had the pleasure of shooting and ones you won't want to miss.
Primarily enveloped in darkness, New Jersey's Fit For An Autopsy had the arduous task of opening up the night, but their heavy and aggressive set was received well by the early attendees.
Fit For An Autopsy's latest effort, The Great Collapse, was released earlier this year on eOne Music.
Sheffield England's While She Sleeps were up next and like a shot of adrenaline that set the tone for the night.
By midway through the 2nd song of their set, Lawrence 'Loz' Taylor (vocals) and Aaran McKenzie (bass) had already got up close and personal with the crowd by jumping into the pit. If that don't wake you up and get you goin, I'm not sure what will.
After some time to regroup, or get a refill, the crowd had now filled in nicely and they were ready for the first of the night's two headliners. Matt Heafy, Corey Beaulieu, Paolo Gregoletto and Alex Bent, better known as Trivium, whipped the crowd into a frenzy from the moment they hit the stage.
This was my first time seeing Alex behind the kit and like the rest of the guys on this night, didn't miss a beat.
The newer tracks from their latest album, The Sin and the Sentence, were very well received and mixed well with vintage tracks like "Strife," "Kirisute Gomen" and 2011's "In Waves".
The culmination of the evening was when the headliners, Arch Enemy, took the stage amidst hauntingly melodic music and the stage filled with smoky heavy riffs. Alissa White-Gluz, proves to be one of the best metal front women in the business with her vocal ability and stage prowess. Backing her are the tight knit unit of Michael Amott and Jeff Loomis (guitars), Sharlee D'Angelo (bass), and Daniel Erlandsson (drums) who had me thinking multiple times throughout their set, why they are a force to be reckoned with in the metal industry. Some key highlights of AE's performance were "World Is Yours", "My Apocalypse", "Blood In The Water", "War Eternal" and "We Will Rise".
I've seen lot of great shows come through the Royal Oak Music Theater and this was definitely one of them. From start to finish, this is a tour you will not want to miss!
