Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan "IN SESSION"

Stax Records 2010
CD/DVD
Review by: ~ Downshifter

Albert King wasn't sure who had been booked to jam with him on December 6th, 1983 in the studios of CHCH, an independent television station in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. For the filming of the innovative television program "In Sessions" produced by Ian Anderson, and syndicated throughout Canada. Albert instantly recognized his 29 year old jam partner, not as fast rising Stevie Ray Vaughan, but simply as little Stevie, they had jammed together before in Austin, when Albert had played there, and their first meeting was in 1973. Keep in mind this taping of "In Sessions" with Albert King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan was taped in 1983, this is the year Stevie would release his debut - Texas Flood, and also his Albert King inspired best in David Bowie's "Lets Dance" would hit, and propel little Texas Stevie into the Big Time. As a huge Stevie Ray Vaughan fan I found this disk as an absolute Jewel. This release has songs that did not make it on the tv screen, when this "In Sessions" originally aired. I have the entire discography of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and most of the Imports, and boots, and one of the best collections of Stevie Ray Vaughan's material on the west coast, but this one simply is the best treasure I have come to own. It is very symbolic, and so amazing to watch, and I never expected it to come my way in 2010. Stevie Ray Vaughan idolized Albert King, and in this video Albert passes the torch to Stevie. You have to see it to believe it. Stevie shows restraint, and holds back a little without getting to flashy, and Albert at one point says "I'm about ready to turn it over to you... I've got to sit back and watch you".

Rest in Peace Albert King April 25, 1923 – December 21, 1992
Rest in Peace Stevie Ray Vaughan October 3, 1954 – August 27, 1990
