Jackie Kajzer, a.k.a. Full Metal Jackie was celebrating the release of her debut book 'Full Metal Jackie Certified: The 50 Most Influential Heavy Metal Songs Of The 80s' by doing a signing and meet n greet party with her family, friends and buyers of the book. There was a raffle as well with the prize being a coffin full of CDs. DJ Will of KNAC was entertaining the crowd with some old school heavy metal tunes, songs which feature in Jackie's top 50 list. It was a good event and it was nice to meet up with Jackie, one of the most well known names in rock journalism with her radio show.
The book itself is a very in-depth look at each of the songs that she has featured in the list. She goes behind the scenes and tells us the story behind the lyrics and its really wonderful for a rock music connoisseur to be able to read that kind of stuff, the great level of creativity and thought process it takes to come up with a particular song, a song which still remains a classic and just never gets old. Although personally to me it was quite shocking and almost unfathomable to a large extent that she hasn't included even a single Iron Maiden song as part of her 'top 50 influential songs', the list of songs is still very well compiled and consists of all the big names bar the one I just mentioned. The likes of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Ozzy and Dio feature regularly in it. This book is all about the 'old school', having a foreword written by none other than Dave Mustaine, and with lots of amazing pictures combined very appropriately and quite brilliantly with the song descriptions. An enjoyable read for every metal fan!
