Insidious Disease - Shadowcast
Review: Larry

The new release by the Super group Insidious Disease, including members of Dimmu Borgir, Old Man's Child and Nile is, at best, a good metal album. It is extreme in content and drumming, but overall, nothing new as far as innovation. My first impression was that it sounds a lot like the first release by Death, Scream Bloody Gore; but with a bit more technical drumming. It is pure metal, no doubt, but nothing grabbed me that stood out to make this CD meet all of the expectations because of the line-up. With so many bands out there, it's hard to leave a good impression on me because of the outright skill these days. I'm not one to kiss a band's ass because members are supposedly elite.
The truth of the matter is that these guys need to stick to their primary bands because without the cool packaging, Shadowcast is, at best, a good metal album. As a musician myself, I respect Metal as an art, but some of these songs have been played a million times. Same lyrical content, same bar dive solos, and relentless blast beats. I don't see Insidious Disease making the mark that the other bands from which this line-up comes from have.
