M-16
La Raiz De Todo Poder
Review By: ~ Kevin

Straight out of New York City comes M-16 with their latest release "La Raiz De Todo Poder" (Translated into "The Root of All Power"). M-16 are a Latin American hardcore band with metal influence whom sing primarily in Spanish. The language barrier means nothing because you can feel the rage emitting from the bands music itself.

In the same vain as bands like Body Count, Bad Brains, and even Living Colour, M-16 voice their frustration of being a minority in society today. It just goes to show you that no matter what creed, class, or sex, hardcore speaks to everyone that feels the same frustration. It doesn't even have to be about racial anger, it can be about anything that keeps you held down in your life.

The record itself, sounds like a cross between Vision of Disorder, Earth Crisis, and Madball. It is very heavy, and assaults your eardrums from start to finish. You can feel the anger pouring through your stereo. The highlights of the album include "Puno al Aire" ("Fist to The Air"), "Feeding The War Machine", and "Profeta" ("Prophet"). The production is decent, the mixing on a couple of the tracks seems a little off.

M-16 are definitely an important band in the genre of Latin American hardcore, especially with what is going on in the United States with immigration. The Album also includes a couple of songs in English which is a nice touch. If you are a fan of hardcore, you should for sure go out of your way to check this out. Just be prepared to feel the absolute rage and frustration that M-16 emote. Viva La Revolucion!
